Chaimans' Report

Last year, I started my report by saying that the Club's financial postion was not very good. It is with regret that I have to say , that things have not improved a great deal. This is despite all the hard work by a lot of people, who have tirelessly tried to get bums on seats, with various forms of entertainment. i.e raffles, quizzes etc. We really need you to use the Club more and "if possible" bring a friend to join.
We Have had visiting clubs and hosted "Reunions" from many old ships, who really enjoy their stay with us.This year we have held lots of parties and live entertainment on Saturday nights, if you have not yet experienced this come and join in the fun, because without these we would be in an even more difficult position.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those who sell raffle tickets, call bingo, and help in other ways, a special thanks to Dave Gill for his continued support and help, to Brian and Jessie for alltheir hard work withvisiting clubs and parties. Not forgetting Ray for entertaining us all so well, special thanks go to Sheila, our Secretary, who has done a fantastic job administrating the Club andkeeping the Committee in line, we are all extremely grateful for her hard work.
I am also thankful of the vast experience and expertise of George Erridge.
I cannot write in the log without mentioningour hard working bar staff, Lynn,Sarah,Spud and Ann, a big thank you from us all.

John Wicking
Chairman

Secretarys' Report

The Clubs accounts for the financial year ended 30th September 200 and show a deficit.

All expenses are kept to a minimum but, unfortunately, the Club's expenses exceed the Club's income.
In this financial year the Club has purchased a new replacement television and an additional till for the staff to use when the Club is very busy.
The Bar Chairman, Mike Bowden, must once again be thanked for his good management of theBar Trading. He has made every endevour to keep the Bar prices as low as possible.
This Club, like many other clubs and pubs, is struggling to survive. Now , more than ever, the Club does need the support of every Club member.
Once again, I thank John Wicking and all pur committee members for their help and support throughout the past year. Especially those Club and committe members who help with the bingo, various raffles and other social events. Jessie Witham has once again worked very hard(with the support of Brian) and prepared many buffets for parties , visiting Clubs and other social events. These parties and visits bring much needed income into the Club.
I thank the bar staff for their hard work and Morry for his weekly help with the banking and carrying change from the bank and the Club.
The Club are grateful to Carl Dennis for once again compiling the Xmas Log.
My final thanks to our worthy President, Mr George Erridge, for his constant help and guidance.

Bar Chaimans Report.

They say figures do not lie and as you can see from the accounts, 2009has been a very difficult year indeed. But for all the very hard work carried out by the committee in various guises. Without all the visits from other clubs and private parties I doubt personally if the Club would have survived. SURVIVED WE HAVE. A very special vote of thanks to Jessie and Brian for all the catering they have undertaken for the sais parties and visits. Also of course to Ray for the music he provides for these occasions.
As you can appreciate from the state of the accounts the President, the Chairman and myself are very concerned about these figure to say the least. I cannot stress enough how important it is to use your Club. We need to make 2010a good year. That can only be done by all members supporting and using the Club and taking part in the events that are arranged. With your help we can stop the deficit and make the Club healthy again.
As you know, unfortunately we have to face a V.A.T imcrease from the 1st January and I have no doubt the brewers will put up their prices to. Morry and I will do our very best to limit these increases, as always we have our members in mind when dealing with them. I wonder sometimes if these brewers are sane in the way they conduct their business and the excuses they make when putting up their prices. As we all know they virtually give their brands away to the all powerful supermarkets, but that's another story.
As for next year, I am unable to give you a forecast. I make no apologies for saying again how important it is for all members to take part in their Club. You have a very hard working Committee, please support them.
As always my sincere and grateful thanks to Lynn,Spud &Sarah and of course Morry for all the assistance he gives me in this difficult job as Bar Chairman. It is much appreciated.

M Bowden
Bar Chairman
