Royal Naval Association

R.N.A EASTBOURNE
History
The Branch was first formed at a meeting held in the Windsor Tavern on 22nd July 1937. The Branch was called The Royal Naval Old Comrades Association and thirty five members were present at the time. Headquarters were moved to the Kings Arms as the membership reached eighty and was continuing to grow. Records show that the meetings were moved again to the Terminus Hotel,to cater for the now 137 fully paid up members.
In January 1947 attempts were made to open club premises at 91 Seaside Road, but planning permission was denied at this time.
In August 1947 the Branch successfully negotiated for premises in North Street and the first Club was opened. When the North Street became to small to accommodate the growing membership, the move was made to Beach Road in 1951, where the Club still enjoys continued success.
The Branch meets on the first Thursday of each month and would welcome new Ex-serving and serving RN personnel to join the now Royal Naval Association Branch and enjoy the full facilities of the RNOCC.

Xmas log 2009
Shipmates, once again it is now time , to compile a few words on behalf of the Branch for the Ships Log, the time seems to fly aroud faster the older one gets.
May I take a moment to thank all of our hard working Committee and Branch Members for their continuing support throughout the year. Without this support we would not have had such a successful year once again.
We have been lucky to have had a few new members join us this year. Our Social events started with a fish and chip lunch on Wednesday 22nd April, held in the the Club, which was well attended and much enjoyed by all. Our thanks to Brian for arranging this, also thanks to Audrey and Eileen our waitresses on the day.
Our Annual outing, on Wed 22nd July was a five hour river trip, fromGosport by boat up the River Beaulieu Butlers Hard. Then back around the Solent, passing the I of Wight, then on back to Gosport.
The weather stayed kind to us, with a nice sunny day, I know all the shipmates on the trip had a really enjoyable day.
The day was rounded off with a meal at the Maritme Club in Pompy, before our journey home. Once again many thanks to Brian, I know how much time and effort these thing take.
Again Trafalgar Sunday went off splendidly, the Band and Sea Cadets, supporting our Shipmates did us proud, as did all our helpers who put on such a fantastic spread back at the Club, after the service.
Well done everyone, without your help and support, my job would be so much harder.
May I take this opportunity to thank Tom Brown, who does such a grand job represent the Branch on numerous occasions throughout the year.
On a sad note, the sudden death of one of our lady members Dorothy (Dot) Muckle, who crossed the bar on the 6th October, she will be sadly missed by all. Our condolences go to her husband Stan.
Before I sign off, may I once again thank Lynn and the bar staff for their help at our events.
To our Branch Committee and members with your continued support we can look forward to another successful year in 2010.
Yours Aye George Langford
Hon: Secretary RNA Eastbourne.
